Drake Judo Club’s first year

One year ago, two passionate Judoka became the founders of Drake Judo club.

They were spurred on by half a dozen keen families. We now have six classes a week. The coaching team has swelled to eight.

We have had pleasure of ten guest coaches, including an Olympian! Eleven members tirelessly work on the committee, and have been recently joined by our new President.

We have somewhere around eighty regular members, and probably double that number of supporters. The Drake Judoka, between them, have ‘bowed onto the mat’ over two and a half thousand times!

We have had ninety five competition entries and won eighty seven medals. Thirty one golds, twenty nine silvers and twenty seven bronzes! Another sixty three medals were won at our own two interclubs. Nineteen children have made it onto our Drake squad and they have attended fifteen competitions. We have four Devon champions, two Devon Squad members and one Western area champion! Not bad for our first year!
